Hanna-Barbera Wiki

Castle thunder is an iconic Hanna-Barbera sound effect, most famously used in various Scooby-Doo shows. The sound was created in 1931 by a technician processing a recording of thunder on a tape-echo unit, a device used in recording studios, and feeding back the recording on itself.

The first Hanna-Barbera series known to use Castle Thunder is The Quick Draw McGraw Show, and many Hanna-Barbera shows and movies from that point on would use it, though this eventually became less common when H-B began to outsource the sound-editing duties to outside editorial companies in the 1980s and 1990s.
