The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual parade presented by the U.S. chain department store business Macy's. The tradition started in 1924, tying it for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States along with America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit, with both parades four years younger than the Dunkin' Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia.
Over the years, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade featured character balloons, including the Hanna-Barbera characters, like Superman, Popeye, Olive Oyl, Yogi Bear, The Pink Panther, Dexter, Scooby-Doo and the Smurfs. A few Hanna-Barbera characters, such as Popeye, Yogi Bear, The Pink Panther and Scooby-Doo were also on "85th Parade Superstars" float with other non-Hanna Barbera characters.
