Tom & Jerry are an animated cat and mouse created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for MGM's theatrical animation unit. The original series of 163 short cartoons was produced from 1939 to 1957 and won seven Academy Awards, tying with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies for the biggest winner in the animated short category. The characters were revived in 1975 for ABC as part of The Tom and Jerry/Grape Ape Show.
