Helppie began her animation career at Warner Bros. as a secretary for director Friz Freleng. She was in charge of the Looney Tunes franchise longer than anyone else except studio founder Leon Schlesinger. She was working as a mapmaker for the studio when her cartoon voice was randomly discovered by Hollywood talent scouts. As senior producer, Helppie was nominated for six Annie awards, two of which she won.
