The Mantis was the disguise of Professor Greer in "The Creepy Creature of Vulture's Claw", an episode of The Scooby-Doo Show.

The Mantis was an insectoid creature who was apparently 7 feet tall, according to Shaggy Rogers.

History

The Scooby-Doo Show

The Mantis came out of the ferns and chased the mailman. When Scooby-Doo gave the flowers to the Mantis, it sneezed. Professor Greer told the gang about the Praying Mantis.

The Mantis continued to chase the gang, even taking Daphne Blake hostage. When it was finally trapped, the three suspects appeared together. The Mantis was revealed to be Professor Greer.

Notes/trivia

• Professor Greer must have been allergic to flowers because he was the Mantis when he sneezed after exposure to the flowers.
• The Mantis later appeared, not as a monster, but as one of the costumes in the Coolsonian Criminology Museum in Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
• At the beginning, the Mantis appeared to be almost as tall as a truck when facing the mailman, but strangely, it was smaller when it attacked Mystery Inc.
• The Mantis' growls and hisses were reused from the Gator Ghoul.
